King Arrives in Beijing to Attend Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony

PHNOM PENH: The King of Cambodia, His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni, arrives in Beijing, China this Thursday afternoon to attend the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Beijing that will commence on 4 February, tomorrow.

The 2022 Winter Olympics will be held from 4-20 February 2022. The opening ceremony of this international event will also be attended by many top leaders of the world, such as Russian President Vladimir Putin, Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman, Qatari ruler Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Crown Prince of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan, and other leaders from more than 30 countries.

The 16-day event will bring together more than 3,000 athletes from more than 90 countries.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian told a news conference in late January that China warmly welcomes the King of Cambodia to witness the historic event.

His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni will stay in Beijing until 5 February before returning to Cambodia. According to the Constitution of the Kingdom of Cambodia, during the reign of the King, all his duties and responsibilities will be delegated to the President of the Senate.

The Beijing Winter Olympics, held in the context of the 19 epidemics of Covid, will be a solemn and rare global event that people around the world sincerely look forward to Olympic Games. Cities in China have stepped up measures to curb the recent spread of COVID-19 as Beijing prepares to host the Winter Olympics in early February.
